"What is the yardstick"
Myself along with many others in the district are very concerned with the way the newly formed Ruapehu District Council is handling the job applications for new positions within the Council. I have written to the
new General Manager at T aumarunui seeking a reply as to what YARDSTICK is being used when considering suitable applications for these positions. Is it qualifications, salary scale, age, previous office experience and/or, in particular, local body experience in this area? It cannot be experience as one senior appointment favours someone who has less than one sixteenth the years' service to local authorities in this area as of one of the other applicants. As a person who has served 14 years with the Waimarino County and Raetihi Borough, I would have dearly like to have applied for the recently advertised position in the Ohakune office for a second clerk, as I have always loved local body work and the public relations that go with the job,
but it would be a waste of everyone's time and more importantly ratepayers money for me to apply as most certainly my 14 years would count for nothing. Rumours are also circulating about another position that has been strangely appointed but in view of being a rumour I cannot comment on it further. If the above statements (and I know that one is correct) are any indication of what has been happening with job applications then the whole system is an absolute farce and a waste of time and money for all concerned. I hope that campaigning delegates are interested enough to follow this up as it would make an excellent platform for collecting votes!! It is with interest that I look forward to my reply from the new General Manager.
