Turoa in "no-win" situation, needs help
I feel compelled to write this letter in reply to Mr Heappey ($2.0 million ticket). Although he has stated his total lack of confidence in the Turoa management, nothing at all positive has come out of it: I must agree with him that Turoa is in a nowin situation at present, and over the past three winters has not shown any sign of getting out of a deepening rut. This situation may be likened to that of an alcoholic - where the first step towards rehabilitation is the admissicn that a problem exists. Like with an addiction problem, Turoa may be forced to hit rock bottom before they admit to themselves, and to the rest of the skiing fraternity, that without help they may not survive. There is a wealth of knowledge and experience among Turoa staff and management, shareholders, and the local community, which
I am sure could be utilised. I would like to suggest that, before the end of the '89 season, a meeting could take place in a positive atmosphere, where all interested parties can put suggestions forward as a collective effort to rejuvenate the ski industry in Ohakune. Could I also suggest to the R.S.B.A that they could liaise with Turoa management to call such a meeting in the very near future.
