Bugging leads to busts
Fifty police officers and staff swooped on the Waimarino early yesterday morning and made a series of drug related arrests. The raid was part of "Operation Roseland" which began on 10 July as a result of concems at the availability of class A drugs in the area.
The officers were split into five teams to carry out 20 search warrants, starting at 5 am. Three people were to appear in the Wanganui District Court today facing charges of conspiring to supply the class A drug cocaine. Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Scott
said numerous other arrests were made regarding the class C drug cannabis. Mr Scott said Operation Roseland was partly an electronic drugs operation where police used their powers under the Misuse of Drugs Act to tap into telephone conversa-
tions. He said in his experience this was the first time a problem with class A drugs had become known in this area and that he was very happy with the
results of the operation. Another person was arrested in Wellington and charged with taking part in the alleged conspiracy.
