No rural health voice feared
A number of Waiouru and Waimarino people fear that these areas will be poorly represented on the new Manawatu Wanganui Area Health Board after the upcoming elections. Under the new board the area loses its
separate representative and is lumped in with a wider Wanganui district to share three elected representatives. People here fear that Wanganui voters will preclude any rural representative by weight of numbers in voting for urban candidates. To add to the fears is
the proviso that nominations have to be directed to Mr Brian Taylor, the returning officer, in Wanganui by Friday 1 September. There has been some confusion over nomination forms but they are available at the Waimarino District Council office in Ohakune.
The Bulletin understands there are no nominations from this area forward as yet but current WAHB representative Dorrothy Scarrow has been asked to stand and is considering it, and Waiouru retired businessman Gordon Mottram has said he will stand if no-one else does.
