Best pub band play Junction

A blues flavour is steeped through the music of the Farrelli Brothers, who play Hot Lava next week.

Mike Farrell formed the group in 1987 and the blues flavour acknowledges the time spent with people like Midge Marsden, Hammond Gamble and Phil Manning. Although the trio has been together just a short while the idea of getting Mike, Sid Limbert and Neil Reynolds

together had been around for years. The leading Farrelli, on guitar and vocals, is an Auckland guitarist who is much in demand as a session muso. "I've had a great apprenticeship with some of the finest musicians in New Zealand," says Mike. Sid on bass and vo-

cals, led the Raglan pilgrimage some years ago and became "by right" the original Raglan "Mudshark". He's toured heaps with top blues and country acts, including USA trips. Neil on drums brings lots of experience having played with a number of rock and blues bands including Midge Marsden's and The Red Hot Peppers.

The "brothers" have plans for an album, movie score recording and TV soundtracks. Farrell says "there's nothing quite like the excitement of a live performance. I think because we enjoy each other's playing, the crowd can feel that energy and respond to it." The Farrelli Brothers were voted best pub band in 1987 by Metro Magazine.
