Achievers' adventure
Turangi's Outdoor Oursuits Centre is searching for eight young achievers aged between 17-22 years to take part in an epic adventure, entitled 'ODYSSEY'.
Odyssey has recently been approved as one of the first projects to kick off New Zealand's 1990 celebrations next year. The Odyssey route takes the group from Wellington, on 1 January 1990, across the harbour by kayak, over the Tararuas, down the Otaki River to the sea. They then c.ycle through Palmerston North, along the Rangitikei through Waiouru to Tukino. They do a triple crossing of Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro and then travel down to the Outdoor Pursuits Centre of New Zealand. From there they raft the Tongariro River, paddle across Lake Taupo and down the Waikato, stopping to cave around Waitomo. The final leg is to cycle up to Coromandel Peninsula and sail to the Bay of Islands ending with a cycle up the beach to Cape Reinga. k New Zealand's youthP at-risk have recently had a lot of attention focused on them, which has been an important move, i however the people ?at OPC feel that young achievers also need special attention.
Young achievers also need encouragement, new challenges and a means of extending themselves and achieving personal
growth. The official date for the completion of Odyssey is 28 January 1990, and it is hoped the participants will be able to join in celebrations at Waitangi on Feb 6th.
