Ruapehu matches city school courses
With many changes occurring in education it is interesting to examine the trends as they affect Ruapehu College. On one hand we have the Government's emphasis on transitional education and Link courses and on the other hand moves from schools for an extemal exam at the 6th from level. The College is fortunate to have a comprehensive transition programme which caters for students from the 4th form to the 7th form. This gives the students a chance to experience life in the workforce while still maintaining an academic programme. Mrs Manson, who co-ordi-
nates the programme, has introduced an innovative programme which is now being copied in other schools. At the 6th form level the students are no longer sitting an external exam and concern has been expressed that there is a need to have an extemal exam to lead into the Bursary exam. Many of our 6th formers are sitting this exam at the end of their academic year; after the final 6th Form Certificate assessment. In preparing for 1990 a course flow chart is being organised. For 1990 there
will be 17 School Certificate courses offered, 21 6th Form Certificate Courses and 13 Bursary /Scholarship courses at the 7th form
level. This range of subjects means despite our apparent lack of size compared to bigger city schools we offer the same number of subjects.
