SETTING UP COSTS FOR DISTRICT COUNCIL

Ruapehu District Manager Cliff Houston told the Taumarunui Borough Council last week there would be a lot of spending for setting up the new district council in the first year. He said these would be in the short term but that their would be long term benefits. Mr Houston said staff reorganisation was proceeding well, but that it was a very unsettling time for "everyone concerned." Transition Committee chairman Garrick Workman said it is a particularly uncertain time for Waimarino staff, especially administration staff and that the sooner staffing decisions are made the better. He said one staff member has left already because of the uncertainty and that more could follow.
