Maori puppets
A small group of fourth form students recently presented a puppet play they had composed to a group of Ohakune Primary School junior pupils. The show was part of the student's Maori language programme. The scenery, hand painted on fabric, quilted and backed made up the scenery of house, tree, cave, hill, rocks, canoe and sea and The Taniwha were
used by the students. The students involved the junior school pupils in what they were doing. Teacher Merrilyn George explained that it was a first effort and the students would be working on improving their presentation. She said puppet play was a very good way of communicating and for dialogue, especially in the elementary stages of a language.
