MORE RUAPEHU DISTRICT COUNCIL CANDIDATES

Two southern Ruapehu men have announced their intention to stand for the Ruapehu District Council elections to be held in October. Taumarunui Mayor Terry Podmore has already announced his intention to run for mayor. Waimarino District Councillor Doug Bennett has said he will be contesting a seat as a Waimarino Ward representative. There are to be three Waimarino Ward representatives on the council. Mr Bennett has served on the Waimarino County Council and the district council. • Waiouru Area Committee chairman Gordon Mottram has said he will stand to represent the Waiouru Ward, which will have two representatives on the District Council. . Mr Mottram is a retired busirtessman, and says he has the necessary time and business acumen to be of value to the new council. Waimarino's present mayor, Garrick Workman, said last week he has not yet decided whether to stand for the new council. He said'he faces three options, to stand for mayor, as a representative for the Waimarino Ward, or to stand down from local government.
