OHAKUNE WATER USE "QUITE STAGGERING"

Six water meters have been installed in Ohakune to measure rural water users in the ward to help decide whether to build botlf stages of the proposed Ohakune water treatment system at one time. The district engineer said the meters were being read weekly and showed that 743,500 litres were being drawn daily by five of the users. He said over a 24 hour period this use was "quite staggering". Four of the five users operate carrot washing sheds, with the biggest user consuming 289,000 litres daily on average.
