WILD HORSES SHIFTED

Five of the 10 wild horses allocated for removal from land near the Desert Road have been captured and moved. DoC has given permission for the capture of the horses because they are causing a nuisance. One older horse died during the capture operation and the other four have moved back onto Army land. Another group of 17 horses were to be removed from private farm land near Waiouru. A DoC officer said blood samples were to be taken from the horses for DNA testing to determine if the Waiouru wild horses are a unique species.
