OK under 19's rampant
Ohakune-Karioi Under 19's in their game on Saturday had Marist on the back foot from the kick off. After five minutes Ohakune-Karioi had points on the board with a Mark Donghi penalty. Marist forwards were far too loose, allowing Ohakune-Karioi forwards room and time to show their close driving and passing points wdre to follow. A good break by first five Dallas Waara saw Simion Nepe score handy to the posts which Mark Donghi converted. Neil Fredericksen from loose play ran out wide and passed to centre Grant Barrett who ran through several weak tackles to run around near the posts to score. Mark Donghi converted. Ohakune-Karioi were soon back on attack from a scrum close to the posts. Half back Simon Nepe ran out wide to score in a tackle. Then from a planned move from a tap penalty, Shane Philips with a good run passed to Richard Hamlin who fed Dallas
Waara to score by the posts. After half time Ohakune-Karioi were straight back on attack. With a good supply of ball it seemed a mammoth score would be posted. However, over-eagerness or simply bad handling saw on too many occasions the final pass go to ground with the Marist line at their mercy. From loose play Grant Barrett shrugged off several weak tackles to score.
A good run from Kirk Betty from the kick-off lead Shane Philips to score after a long weaving run. A try under the posts by Grant with Mark Donghi converting completed the scoring. Final score was Ohakune-Karioi 43, Marist nil. Player of the day was Mark Donghi. Ohakune play runners-up in the competition, Raetihi, at Ohakune next Saturday.
