OPENING OF PIPIRIKI HOUSE TAKES BACK SEAT

Opening Pipiriki's historical Colonial House for visitors is taking a back seat to conservation work, since Department *of Conservation budget cuts were made. Senior conservator John Lythgoe said conservation work priorities come first and that means unless a staff member is on hand the house remains shut. He said DoC could not afford to have a staff member "hanging around" Pipiriki in case someone wanted to view the house. He suggested if visitors are interested in visiting the house they should contact conservation Qfficer Dennis McDonnell at Pipiriki to find out when it is possible for it to open.
