Junior Tumblers at Springvale
A full truck load of equipment and many carloads of gymnasts and support team of officials from the Turoa Tumblers travelled to Wanganui to participate in the Wanganui Manawatu Junior Open Gymnastic Championships held at Springvale stadium last Saturday.
All junior competitors took part in this major competition and many enjoyed very successful day. The Grade 8 team of Katrina Marsh, Jenny Murdie and Jessie Pope took 5th place out of a large entry of 13 teams. The Grade 7 girls - Kerri Allerby, Caralie Abbott, Kelly Swain and Denise Waerea gained bronze medals in third place with Denise gaining 3rd on the bar. The Grade 9 boys - Andrew Murdie and John Hays were combined with two boys from Wanganui Boys and Girls Club and gained 2nd place for silver medals and Andrew came 2nd overall to bring home an-
other silver medal. He performed well to be placed 1st on floor and 2nd on High bar, John Hays gained 3rd place on rings, 2nd on vault and 1st on High bar. The Grade 10 team of Daniel Pearson, Daniel Forster and Scott Nation came first to win gold medals with Scott placed 3rd on floor, Daniel Forster coming 2nd on floor and 3rd on High bar and Daniel Pearson excelling himself with 1st placings on floor and parallel bars, 2nd on High bar and- -3rd on vault to finish 1st overall - another gold medal. Junior Elite gymnast Carys Hubbard delighted the enthusiastic young-
sters with a demonstration of her floor exercise which she com-
petes with in Perth next week. She received donations from gym clubs
and Manawatu Gym Association to help towards her travel costs.
