NORTH ISLAND TREK FOR PURSUITS CENTRE

The Tongariro based Outdoor Pursuits Centre is planning a month-long trek the length of the North Island for next year as part of the 1990 commemor ations . The Centre is looking for eight young people to take part in the expedition, aimed to start on 1 January 1990, which traverses bush, mountains, rivers, caves and the ocean. Two instructors will guide the group across Wellington Harbour by kayak and from there they will traverse the Tararuas, down the Otaki River to the Tasman Sea. They will cycle from there to Mt Ruapehu, climbing up and over the Tongariro National Park peaks and then raft the Tongariro River to Lake Taupo for a canoe trip across to and down the Waikato River. They will cycle to the Coromandel Peninsula, sail to the Bav of Islands then cvcle to Catte Reinea.
