MT'S ICY CONDITIONS CLAIM FIRST VICTIM

An Auckland man is in hospital with a suspected broken leg after a fall on ice on Mt Ruapehu, on Sunday. The accident occured at Iwakau at the top of the Bruce Road, on the Whakapapa side of Mt Ruapehu. Conditions on the mountain have been made hazardous with the weekend's snow showers and freezing levels down to 900m. More snow is predicted during the next few days. Between 2025cm new snow fell on the upper slopes of the mountain at the weekend.
