WHANGANUI RIVER BOAT STILL FOR SALE

The dispute over Wanganui River water flows is holding up the sale of the tourkt boat, the MV Wakapai, according to its owner. Winston Oliver, of Raetihi, has had the jet boat which runs trips from Taumarunui to Wanganui on the market for about a year. He says the appeal by Electricorp over the river's nriinimum flows is creating uncertainty for possible buyers. More water in the river would make negotiating a number of rapids easier for the boat. Mr Oliver has applied to the Central Districts Catchment Board for permission to clear a number of channels where shingle has built up over the years since groynes were built, early this century.
