SKI FIELD JOBS POPULAR

500 applicants are after 120 jobs offered by Turoa this ski season. The record number of applications include a large number of unemployed, many of them school leavers, according to a Turoa staff member. Ruapehu Alpine Lifts have changed their tack in seeking staff - this year they advertised locally only , in Taumarunui, Turangi and the Waimarino. A company spokesperson said despite not advertising nationally they received "absolutely heaps" of applications. RAL is aiming to employ local people in the hope that they will be back in future seasons and to create local employment. Farmers and farm workers with time for winter work are1 among those RAL has sought this year. The spokesperson said the company is not ruling out applications from people outside the area that have written in.
