Waimarino rugby rivals clash
Supporters of Ohakune-Karioi and Raetihi rugby teams were treated to a display of how the game should be played on Saturday. The teams were wellmatched, Ohakune taking an early lead with a score of 13-6 at half
time. Raetihi fought back in the second half, making the most of a big territorial advantage. Raetihi players Harvey, Trow and Tihema scored the team's tries, with Thomas Waara making two conver-
sions and a penalty goal. Ohakune players Spry and Mareikura were the try setters, with Whetu Mareikura following up with a conversion and three penalty goals. A penalty goal kick in the last two minutes
of the game by Thomas Waara could have sewn up the game for Ohakune if it were successful, instead the teams drew 19-all. Waiouru v Taihape Pirates Waiouru beat Pirates
29-3 on Saturday, with cohesive play and good performances by most of the side. Waiouru achieved its win by putting the ball out wide, with two tries by Greg Tetzlaff making a comfortable lead at half time.
Tries were scored by Tetzlaff, Steve Guiney and Steve Cameron. Lachlan Harding kicked two conversions and three penalty goals.
Taihape player Tony Marrow scored the team's only penalty goal. Final score Waiouru 29, Taihape Pirates 3.
