BOLGER SUGGESTS TREATY TIME LIMIT

King Country MP and leader of the opposition Jim Bolger believes claims dealt with by the Waitangi Tribunal should not go further back than 1975. "We have spent 140 years in trying to determine the intention of the people who signed the Treaty of Waitangi and are no further ahead," he told delegates from 32 King Country National Party branches at this year's annual meeting of the King Country electorate. "We should learn from history, not be a slave to it," he said. Officers were elected at the meeting, with local man Arthur Collier taking on the job of chairman.
