Parking lanes an improvement

BY

The Waiouru Community Advisory Council met on Monday April 17 and topics such as bus parking, the sub-divi-sion, drain covers and the Maternity Annex.

The new Parking lanes painted along State Highway One were a definite improvement on the old system, the committee heard. Those buses calling in were using the parking facilities provided for them, but some members of the public were having trouble adjusting to the new one way system now in place. At a later date barriers will be installed which will streamline things further, the committee was told. Subdivision The new subdivision was not proceeding according to plan, due to the lack of interest shown in the sections for sale, to date between six and eight

people had put down a deposit, but for the subdivision to proceed further interest will be needed before the underground services can be put in place. Drain covers People are warned to take care when riding along some of the streets in Waiouru as a few storm water drain covers are missing. Earlier this month an accident occurred in which a child broke an arm when the child's bike fell down an uncovered drain. Annex As to the Maternity Annex, the Army's view on this is that they will have to assess the new services provided by the Wanganui Arca

Health Board before any further decisions can be made. They will, however, be monitoring the situation over the next three months to see what effect the changes have on the community in general, and to the mothers-to-be in particular. The meeting held by the Waiouru Action Committee was very poorly attended, especially with the possi-

bility of losing not only the local doctor but the chemist as well, the WCAC heard. Dogs Waiouru residents are to be reminded that this is the time of year when dogs must be registered. Can collection A suggestion was made that a collection point be made for the disposal of empty cans and bottles. with t>er-

haps one of the community youth groups being responsible and benefiting from it. Milk depot In the not too distant future Waiouru will see the erection of a milk depot, which will be behind the Shell Waiouru garage. Building the depot will mean milk deliveries can be done at a timc convenient to Waiouru residents.
