Council apology
In reply to Mr M.F. McGraths letter in the Bulletin of April 4 and the article on page 2 oi that issue regarding Vehicle Replacement, I would like to make the following points: Normally The Waimarino District Council does call for tenders when replacing vehicles, but not neccessarily. In this instance no decision to call tenders was made. Therefore the Council Officer who advised Mr McGrath that tenders would be called
in this instance had no right giving him that advice. Nevertheless I agree whole-heartedly with Marty's sentiments when he complains that he wasn't given an opportunity to tender or quote a price for the replacement of this vehicle. For that reason on behalf of Council I tender an apology to Marty and assure him
that he and local dealers will be considered in future when quotes are being obtained. It is important to remember that the replacement vehicle was purchased locally and as long as local business firms in all fields provide competitive quotes or prices Council will, whenever it can, continue purchasing locally.

I refer to the letter signed B. McAnnalley regarding electricity charges and published in your April 4 1989 edition. The increases on electricity charges quoted in the letter are quite incorrect. He is twisting figures because he has not done his homework properly. The facts are that the tariff rates have been increased by only an average 10.2% to cover increased costs. Your correspondent has made the simple mistake of not noticing that the advertised figures include GST (as stated) while electricity accounts are calculated excluding GST and have GST added at the bottom. (This enables our customers to conveniently see how much is tax and electricity.) The supply charges
have not been increased at all, while the domestic rate unit prices have been increased by 15.1% to give the average increase of 10.2%. I would like to take this opportunity to
Sledge again
Not only must we contend with the atten-tion-seeking Waiouru 'Sledge' in our local newspaper the Ruapehu Bulletin. But upon perusal of another paper, I note with agitation that 'Sledge' has once again expressed his chauvinistic view for all to see.
mention to your readers that this Board's electricity charges aftei discount, are one of the lowest, if not the lowest, in New Zealand.

Well, I have to say, that 'Sledge's' weekly dose of futile chatter has managed to do as he obviously set out to achieve! Oh, and by the way - the 'Fat Ladies' hour and a half - Great idea.
