Fundraising started for Pony club trip
A successful "Batons Up" evening was held recently in Raetihi to raise money for j the King Country Pony Club team's May trip to the deep south for the National Pony Club Championships.
"It is a very costly exercise getting five riders and their ponies
to Wanaka and the support from the people of the Waimarino is most appreciated," say organisers. A good turnout of people were eager to take up the variety of donated prizes, and over $700 was raised. "Our grateful thanks go to Faith Wise, Glenis Langdon and their helpers who ran a very successful night," added the organisers. "Pony Club wish to thank all the business houses in Raetihi and Ohakune, and the many other individuals who generously donated such wonderful prizes." The team members are training hard and
the recent spell of good weather has made this much more pleasant. All team members attended a training weekend concentrating on dressage at Ongarue recently and every Wednesday, cross country and fitness work is done on Roke's property. The following team will represent the Waimarino at the Timberlands Teams event at Tokoroa this weekend: Rodney McCoubrie, Cindy Langdon, Maria Fredricksen, Donovan Morris, Trudi Allerby (Raetihi) and Fiona Evans (Ohakune) with Kirsty Mcllroy (Raetihi) as reserve. Over 50 teams from all over the North Island compete in dressage, show jumping and cross country over the two days.
