RETARUKE SLIP STOPS

A Retaruke slip that has been moving for almost three years seems to have stabilised, according to the catchment board. The slip, which has been described as the worst gully slip in an isolated area, began moving in late 1987. It is sited 10 km off State Highway Four, beside Erua Road. The board is presently waiting to see if it is going to move more, and may try planting willows on the slip face.
