Power up 10.5 per cent

Waimarino consumers' power bills are to go up 10 and a half per cent from April 1. The King Country Electric Power Board unit charges are to increase while the supply charge stays the same. The nett effect is a 10.5 per cent increase to consumers. Board Secretary/treasurer Norm Annand told the Bulletin the reasons for the rise included the five per cent increase in the bulk supply tariff from Electricorp. Having more effect is the drop in interest rates on the board' s investments, said Mr Annand. He said in recent years increases in charges had been kept low thanks to interest earned from Power Board investments. He said two per cent of the increase was to

offset the costs to the Board associated with taking over the supply of electricity to the Taumarunui Borough.

Mr Annand said as a result of negotiations with the Taumarunui Borough Council the Board has taken over

the supply which means taking on the former Borough Council staff associated with the electricity supply.

He said Taumarunui consumers would benefit from the rationalisation of the power supply systems.
