New Ohakune eatery
Skiers coming off the Ohakune Mountain Road may be looking at a new restaurant this winter. Owners of the site on the corner of Mangawhero Terrace and Thames Street in the Ohakune Junction (previously Turners and Growers) have been given approval to shift the Carter Homestead to the site and upgrade it to be used as a restaurant. The town planner told the Waimarino council at the application hearing that the building would be of a similar character to the existing Junction buildings and should not create any problems. The owners, Hi Line International Limited (represented by Mr Paul Scarf), intend to carry out major restoration work to the building at its present site, the council heard. Conditions attached to the approval include that the exterior renovations be completed and painted within six months of the building being re-sited, and that parking, loading and access, and landscaping requirements of the Tourist Develpoment Zone be complied with.
