NO MOTEL FOR WAIOURU
Waiouru s motel will not now be buiit aespite success with the Rangitikei County Council planning hearings. Developer Mr Bernard Jackson has said he has decided not to proceed with the $1 million project because too many conditions were placed on it by the County. Those conditions made the purchase and the whole viability of the motel uneconomic, said a spokesman for Mr Jackson last Friday. He said the sealing of the road edge in front of the motel site was one of the conditions, but more importantly was the decision by the council to say no to Mr Jackson's plea for permission to erect advertising signs for the motel that would not fit the council planning scheme. The council said he would have to ask for the advertising sign permission as a separate specified departure from the scheme. The spokesperson said if Mr Jackson could not show people where the motel was, it would not be economic as a business.
