appeared for sentence on a charge of causing intentional damage to two rubbish bin holders belonging to the Waimarino District Council. Defendant had "attacked" these rubbish bin holders in the Cedar Mall with karate kicks after leaving the local hotel on November 17 last year. Burglary and conversion Aaron Tremain Prior Horne, 21, shearer of Raetihi, pleaded guilty to one charge of burglary and two charges of car conversion when he appeared last Thursday though these charges related to offences committed on June 18 last year. Court heard how defendant had broken into a house on the Parapara road on that date and stolen a set of keys and a tape deck valued at $230. He then took a Holden Rodeo utility valued at $12,000

and drove south until he noticed the petrol gauge showed the vehicle was low on fuel. He then took a Subaru RX ute valued at $16,000 and drove to Petone. On these three charges he was remanded on bail to appear in the Ohakune District Court on March 23 for a probation officers report and sentence and reparation report. On two further charges that he had, on another occasion, been driving while disqualified and ad failed to stop and provide details, he pleaded not guilty and was remanded on bail to appear in the Taumarunui District Court on March 8. Remanded Melville John Hunt, 37, contractor of Ohakune, who was remanded without plea on two charges at the previous Court hearing, entered a plea of not guilty through his counsel to both charges, one being for assault the other being for using insulting language on December 19 last year. Remanded Bruce Francis Liddle, 39, farmer of Horopito, who was remanded without plea on a charge of stealing a cattle beast valued at $750 when he last appeared in Court, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared again on Thursday. He was remanded to appear for a defended

hearing on this and other charges including theft, intentional damage and threatening to kill, on March 23. No bail Brian Michael Ludeman, 38, unemployed labourer of no fixed abode, appeared to face three charges following his arrest for non-appearance at the previous Court sitting on February 2. All three charges related to the burglary of Wholesome Foods Limited in Clyde Street, Ohakune, the first on January 15 and then on January 20 and again on February 2. On the first occasion defendant stole $300 and on each of the two subsequent occasions he took $20 cash and some food. A sum of $340 was sought from defendant by way of reparation. Defendant was remanded in custody to the Kaitoke Prison near Wanganui until March 23 so that he could be assessed for in-patient alcohol treatment at Wanganui. Through his counsel defendant agreed to this course of action and declined the option of bail. Counsel: P Brown. Unlawful entry Ricky John McLeod, 21, unemployed labourer of Ohakune, appeared for sentence on one charge of being unlawfully in a building and one charge of being in possession of an instrument at night.
