Turangi golfer wins Waiouru's Mountain Classic
There is stili no local winner of Waiouru's Mountain Classic golf tournament. Winner of the 1989 Mountain Classic was Brian McCarthy from
Turangi who, along with his trophy, received a jacket (US Masters style) crystal glasses and a household appliance. "This was a most
unexpected win, as all day it had been a bit of a struggle what with the wind," said Brian. "But I guess it must have been that 15 foot putt that went in on the last
hole that won me the tournament." Presentations were made by June Morgan, Jimmy Gibb - a Life member of the Club, Club President Bob
Campbell and club Patron Clive Sinclair. The 86 men who attended were divided into three grades, and the 25 women played in a competition of their
own with the exception of two ladies who played off the men's
tees. All place getters were given prizes as well as trophies.
