New name for Bulletin
We've changed our name.
From today the Waimarino Bulletin will be called the Ruapehu Bulletin. Announcing this today, publisher Mr John Woods said the change was a result of staff consensus following analysis of the changing nature of the Bulletin' s circulation area. "We feel the title Ruapehu Bulletin more accurately reflects the region we serve," he said. "Of course our weekly newspaper will continue
to function as the voice of the wider Ruapehu region including the Waimarino district." Mr Woods said dropping of the name "Waimarino" was really regretted but it was in keeping with changes to local government in the area. From October the Waimarino District will merge 'with Waiouru and the Taumarunui district to form the new Ruapehu District Council. Mr Woods said the
Bulletin aimed to continue serving the Waimarino as its primary news and circulation area but would extend its services to provide coverage of the new region with its administration headquarters in Taumarunui. The Bulletin plans to provide full district council coverage and to maintain a strong working relationship with the Taumarunui Gazette, owned by the founders of the Bulletin, John and Johan Sandford. The Bulletin and Gazette are,
planning to share resources in order to provide better service to their combined readers. Mr Woods said the Bulletin has already increased its services over the last year with the launching of Waiouru's Empty Page special section and the provision of a weekly ski and winter holiday publication during August and September. To be called Ruapehu 89 this year, the special colour tabloid will follow the same format and style as the 1988 product.
