Something for everyone at Health Expo

March 3 and 4 are continuing to shape up to be the healthiest days of 1989.

Waimarino community Health Watch committee organiser Dorothy Scarrow said the response from different groups in the community to "Health Expo" has been remarkable. To date approximately 35 organisations have indicated that they will be holding indoor displays related to healthy living. These will be set up in the Raetihi Primary School Hall, and will cover such a wide range of topics that there should be activities to appeal to every individual. A variety of outdoor activities are also planned for the week preceding "Health Expo", as well as on the day. They include a Twilight Golf Tournament organised by the Local Lions and Rotary clubs, a bike-a-long, a

swimming club carnival for all ages and a fun run organised by Angel Rapana aimed to finish at "Health Expo" for the commencement of Saturdays activities at 9.30am. Also a display of the Police fitness programme should make worthwhile viewing. Mayor Garrick Workman will officially open "Health Expo" on the Friday evening. This will be followed by a talk from Dr Sam Chan and Mrs Phyllis Van den Brook on A.I.D.S. and Hepatitis B. Specialist speakers for Saturday's programme include Dr J. Goldsmith (Paediatrician) on 'Asthma and other childhood illnesses', Dr J. Rivers on 'Health for the Wrinkles', Mr Kim Tito talking on 'Maori health issues', a repre-

sentative from the New Zealand Heart Foundation, and local nurses on how to cope with stress. All guest speakers will welcome questions from the public. The Waimarino Plunket committee will be selling healthy lunches and drinks and

afternoon tea will also be available. Local primary school children are at present busy doing posters relating to 'fun-food-and-fitness', and the results of this work will be seen around town during "Health Expo" week. Many local organisations have supported

the Waimarino Community Health Watch Committee in producing a "Health Expo" programme that will suit everyone. Remember that "It is your Health, It is your Day, so be there". See next week's Bulletin for a detailed "Health Expo" programme.
