Samshury Esq, Chairman, Kodney Agricultural Sooiety, Sir ' i ' Afterthe unheard-of prooeediugof one or two of the Society's coinmitteenien going round and representing a onesided and narrowminded view of a question that had been carried by the Committee in full assembly to obtain, a few signatures to a petition to reverse our decision, and whioh to my own knowledge several of the most influential would not have subscribed their names had they known and considered the matter in all its ben-ing, I feel that it would be out of place to attend your meeting, and trust to bo excused, and beg to. state that I am expressing the sentiments of several of the committee, who will abstain from hampering you with any further discussion on the matter and reserve to, themselves their future action with regard to the sooiety. I am sir, Yours truthfully. J. M: King. Mr. Hood said he had voted for the Saturday "at last" just to get the matter of the show-day settled, And he did not consider this a gentlemanly letter to send. If the petr - ion were again taken to the same people to sign they would willingly do so again. He favoured a minute of censure on the writer being recorded. Mr. Scandvett thought that it was quite right to give the local people, first place and let? visit us take a second place.
In reply to a question from. Mr. Hood. Mr. Thomson said that he had something to do -with getting up the petitions.
Mr. Morrison said that if he had wanted to go round with the petition he could have got any amount of signatures.
Mr. Hood said thot Messrs Morrison and Thomson had enlightened him somewhat about this petition, as he t did n.,t know that any member of the committee had had anything to do with it, All the same he thought it was not a gentlemanly letter to send.
