McGregor S e S Go's New Steamer, Wo; clip tlie following from the Port Glasoow " Express '' dated Nov. 1. 1901:— . " IMPORTANT STEAMSHIP CONTEAOT FOE POET GLASGOW. ANOTHER SALOOX TASSEXGER SIEAJIEU FOR AUCKLAND' XEVT ZEAL'AXD. A contract lias been placed with Messvs Murdoek & Murray i-y the McGregor S. >S. Go. of 'Auckland New Zealand, for a new sfcearnei- for their passenger and cargo trade. The building-of this ye sel has been considerably delayed by the difficulty of getting light-plates from the steel works, the mills having- beeu continuously employed rolling- for the q: 8000 j ton class. No time, however, will now bo lost in dispatching the steamer to her destination, Messrs Muir& Houston, Glasgow, will supply the engines, which are t iple expansion, with allI the latest improvements, and are calj culated to drive the steamer at a high rate of speed. The saloon, which will aceomoclnte a large number of possengers, will be sumptuously fitted up in Messrs Murdock & Murray's best style. It may be remembered [that Mr. IMe Gregor has had seve; al steamers built in Port Glasgow for Auckland, tae last being the " Kia Ora" by Messrs Eobert Duncan & Co. Tho present steamer is being built under the supervision of Mr. William Campbell of Port Glasgow, Avho is the representative of the Me Gregor Steamship Company in Bcoland." In view of the conflicting rumours which have been going the rounds concerning this "new boat" the above authentic intelligence should prove interesting reading-. Apart from any .feeling whatever iv the "steamer question"' we think that the advent of a steamer of this class running daily to' Warkworth is a matter of such para-. mount public importance to the prospects of• this or any district that ye can only hope the spirited entorpris o of the Me Gregor S. S. Company will | reap a sufficent share of the trade" That such facilities must necessarily create in this district to justify them in iheir venture, and Warkworth and surrounding districts in maintaining such a service. We are equally anxious to see the Coastal S. S. Company. thrive, and for that matter we would not object to a few more Companies putting j up-to-xlate steamers on the. trade, so | long as the trade justifies it and above ! all do good to the district, for as a oonj sequence we would all reap substaii.----i tial benefits.
