Ahuroa.
Mr. A. "Woodcock Jnr. chairman of tlie Ahuroa Branch Auckland Railway League, on receipt of a telegram received from the Central Secretary, sent a wire in reply expressing- our disgust at the sum of £15,000 on the Public Works Estimates for the Helensville Northwards Railway fo the League in Auckland, and also to Mr. Monk M.H.R. for "Waitemata in hopes of getting something put on the Supplementary Estimates.
A great many men have lately left the railway construction works; the gangs as they have finished their cuttings have been discharged instead of belli a1 sent ou North of Ahuroa. For
some months there were about one hundred and fifty men employed but, now they have fallen off to about half that number.
On tho recent visit of tho Inspector, Mr. G. Toornan, teacher of the two half time schools passed all his scholars with one exception. This is very good for half time school especially that last year he did about the same.
Sharp frost here on 11th. (Own Correspondent.)
