The monthly meeting of tho Farmers* Union was held on Saturday 2o t October There were thirteen present, three new members being enrolled.
The subject for the evening was the "JSjOxiQus Weeds Act," A^oopy of the Act was read by the olj airman, and considerable di*ou«sion' ensued, The following reso utiohs were unanimously carri-d.
That In the opinion of this meeting it is not advisable for the Boad Board to bring into >orce the 2nd, Schedule of the Act, That in the opinion of this meeting the Local Governing Bodies should enforoe the provisions of the Public Works Act ro clearing the roads of gorse etc. That the above resolutions be forwarded to the Rodney County C"unoil and 'he Upper Mahu-rang-i Boad Board,

I The annual examination of the
school took plai-e an the 25th. of Oct iThe report of the Chief Inspector, Mr. ,Petrie, is yery'satisf actory, there being iynly oi\e failure in the school. Teacher and parents alike are to b.e congratulated on the pleasing- result of the gear's work.
•j On Wednesday- evening a meeting Wvas held in the Wesleyan Church. /The. Bey. G. Frost was in the chair, and intnxlnced Mr. Roget of Paro-o-taioa to the audience. This gentleman j gare a very interesting address on his experiences as Home Missionery in the King Country. His description of the evils of ihe illicit liquor traffic in that district was especially worth hearing. Prom his personal acquaintance Avith this problem, he says that the proposal to introduce licences would only accentuate the evil. What is. wanted is, not less but more prohibition. The meeting- closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the speaker. (Own Correspondent).
