UPPER MAHURANGI ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of the above "Board wr.s held at the Board's Office on Oct. 28, 1901,
Present: J, Barton Esq. (o'lairman), Messrs Woodcock, Taylor, Shepherd and Vipond, Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. Kaiper wrote re. removal of signboard at old Pound, The chairman reported that erection of the new Pound was progressing* satisfactorily. Resolved that Messrs Woodcock and Vipond attend to the expenditure of the whole of;he Thirds of the Tauhoa district..

Department ro Accident Insurance. • Mr, Shepherd pro. Mr. Woodcock sec, that the clerk take out a policy for £300 at 1.0 percent, without delay. Carried, Mr. H. B, French on behalf of Homeguard Lodge of Bechabite-s, re renting the old hall. The clerk to write stating that a eharg* of Is, per night would be, charged. Also, the Salvation Army be notified that a charge of Is. per week will be made.for rent as from November 1, 1901; this oharge to be for one night p r r week. Ar»y other night tobe charged Is, extra, Mr. Taylor to attend to work neai* Mr. McElr y's place. Mr. King here waited on the Board regarding" arrangement" come to at the previous meeting ou. the. matter of. putting m road throughiMrsV $. property to give access to : Mr. Itiug-'s r laud. It will be remembered that at the la-t meeting the Board decided to put this road through on "conditions th.t Mr. K'ng granted roads through his property to connect with Kaipara Boad. also to give an outlet in another direction to Messrs Snook's property, (which would be a total of about 150 chains) on condition that Mr, Snook did his share, of femoing on the road to his place, Mr. King said that he had dreaded thai he could not accept these u>rms as it was asking too much of him, but he was willing to., give a road through to the Kaipara Boad, Mr. Snook had; been interviewed on the mater and rafused to do any fencing whatever. The chairman said that the Board; had spent public m ney on the r< >ad; to Mr. Snook's and he contended it was therefore a public road.. The Board had decided'that if Mr. King will not give back this i\j;ai, they would decline to take a roact throug Mrs. "Wilson's property. A long discussion took place about table of roads etc., Mr. King said thw Board had no power or right to take this road through his property except through the Public Works Act, as he had bought and paid for the laud and held the title. He then asked what was the intention of the Board regarding a petition to be signed by a large number of ratepayers to give 'him a road into his property. The chairman said he would ignore this-petition as it seemed to him" that
some people will sign anything they are asked to. Mr. King then withdrew. Chairman moved That M. Taylor be authorised to get necessary repairsdr.ne to the Kowrawhe Bridge, seconded by Mr. Woodcock and carried. Letter received from Mr. Y. Miller asking for .repairs to bis road. The Chairman and Mr. Taylor were authorised to go and see what can be done. Tlie Clerk was instructed to write to the Chief Surveyor for authority to commence the works- under the £35 Grant. Mr. John Taylor was authorised to arrange with Mr. Win. Taylor for doing the necessary work between his placo and Beat's and MoEroy,s. The clerk was instructed to write to: M>. James Morison apologising for not giving him notice before commencing the deviation of road through the' School Reserve leased by him. If was quite an ove. sight. Accounts passed for Pavmeut '£5$ 6s.
