Mr. S, A, Bi'own addressed a fair meeting in the hall on the 15 inst,, Mr. A. Campb 11 J.P, was. voted to the chair.
Mr. Brown described the working of the Auckland Farmers' co-operat-ive society, and said it was gaining ground- as settlers were recognising the advantages of co-operative. Mr, Brown also gave some ioformat on in connection- with the IS T,Z. Farmers' Union, and advocated the establishment of a commercial exchange for sat iers to obtain financial assistance' on co-operative lines.
Mr. Brown gave some interesting information of a Farmers' Eire Insurance Association in Christchnrch.
He said settlers were compelled to pay for the risks in towns, and pointed out that the recent increase of rates was caused by the losses in towns; the Insurance Co's stating that all the premiums this year were swallowed up in losses.
The Christchurch Farmers' Insurance Company received £11,000 in premiums and paid in loss some '£l, 500 showing that farmers' risks were small.
A discussion ensued in support of the co-operative society, and some shares were taken up. On the motion of the chairman it was agreed to call a public meeting on the 22 ins', to form a branch of the N.Z. Farmers' Union.
