Ahuroa.
A meeting of settlers -was held at the No 1 School on August 3. Mr. T. 0. Jenkins who convened the meeting was voted to the chair., The ohairman stated he had called the meeting at the request of several who wished to have a Post Office open.cd here and to bring the matter before the meeting, moved that the time has arrived to have a Post Office opened in the district, seconded by Mr.. Taylor and. carried. Mr, Burns moved that the chair-: man- draw up a petition to the Chief I Postmaster, Auckland, asking for a Post Office to ha opened it Mr. R. Drinnan's store, Ahuroa with a biweekly service .from Tahekeroa on Monday, and Friday or Saturday, seconded by Mr. ~W. L. Sanderson and carried. ;A petition,was approved of by those present, and is now in coui-se of being signed.. It was also decided that the chairman forward the same when signed and call another meeting if necessary. The usual vote of thanks to the chair, brought the proceedings to a close. .
The telephone is now extended ' to;, here, but for the present only for the use of the Public "Works Department. However wa have the satisfac'ion of knowing that iij.. is to remain here and will shortly be Open to the Public. The weather the- last few weeks has been greatly against the. earthwork on the railway extension, but the work in' the tunnel is going on all right.
