On Friday evening a. banquet was ield at the AVarkworth Hotel for the ' Hirpoee of giving a formal and hea.rtv « yeption to Mr. H. i»lcLeod,'a native >f this district, wlio has just returned ! Unfortunately ihe weather proved inclement, which prerented a number who intended' being present, from attending; several having previously paid for their chairs were also absent. Letters oi apology were received from Key. G. Frost, excusing .his absence cwing to a previous engagement but expressing many kind wishes, also Mr. Campbell J.P. Matakana, who was unable to be present owing to the weather, and from'Mr. T. Warm, who is in ill health. The banquet was laid on two long tables running the lfength of the room Key McKinney (chairman), Mr, Sainsbury (vice chairman). Messrs King and La Roche occupying 'similar positions at the other table. Mr* McKinney (chairman) fpruwily' Vfvicomed the guest and proposed the Royal Toast.. M;\ Sainsbury (vice) gave the Army and Navy to .vhieh Messrs Stacy (Army) and Clomehtd (Navy) responded, Mr. La Roche Defence Forces, in which was included the contingents, Mr. A-. Rayner (veteran.) responulngs Mr. Hamilton also responded. I Mr. McKinney proposed The Guest! of the evening.
