He asks for.no more forcible evidence that sh&epfarming forms no small factor among the industries of the two counties, and that this community has much for which to thank our woolly friend; at the same time one is inclined to yearn for the charm of Variety, when it, (the mutton), turns up so consistently for discussion at our festive board. It is tlie owxievs intention to deal with ' Kaikaitea, Rimu and Mitia timber^ i This should prove of great advantage . to the settlers as a means of disposing profitably of their timber which in the 1 past has been destroyed by fire for i the purpose of clearing the land ; as an instance of this, we know of one . small district where it is estimated that ' over 1,000,000 ft. was destroyed durJ;ing the last few years, which had • these mills been working, would have [ appreciably augmented the revenue of k the struggling settler. We trust that ' those who have these timbers on their 1 land will be sufficiently alive to their i own interests to give Mr. Gibbons' entjarprise every encouragement,

Warkworta one<of the oldest settl^-i < ments in the colony, after lying iff a dormant state for half a century, at last showing signs of bestirring itself , from its morbid/ drowsmess, andjudg-l, ing from the traffic coming in from all parts of the surrounding districts, the. new buddings going up, both business and private, indicate that a progressive chapter has opened; evidence is not, wanting that the townsfolk are awaking to theiact; and doing something to meet the requirements of the new order of things. In-the business street of; the town, Messrs Civil Bio>s. are; erect/] mg a large two storey-store and dwell-! ing which, when finished, will be an : acquisition and an ornament to the town, Mr. A* Warm is also erecting a large concrete forge, and another business man is getting ready to erect a shop for a drapery misineeg, whichi we understand will also do credit tp^ fche main street. We can only trust that this is the dawn of greater and permanent prosperity for tne wKole ofthe surrounding districts, and that such expressions as " the poor north" which, by-the-way are quoted t« our detriment, byow more southern neighbours "ad xauseam" wiE soon be without justification. The many old Port Albert friends of MrJ Inger, who met with a very serious accident several months ago will be pleased to hear tha^ he is well on the way to recovery, thanks to afetrong constitution and the careful and constant attention of Dr. Hudson. Owing to the delay caused by the towing ropes, of some of the boats becoming foul with the propeller of .the Kapanui which was towing a number lof boats from Mahurangi Heads, to' Warkworth on Saturday night prevents ing the performers, who were on board reaching the Hall in t'me for the concert. The committee have decided, as announced in our advertising column, to hold the concert on Thursday April 4th. when a good programme by the best artists is promised; a bumper house should be the result, At the Warkworth Police yesterday before J. M. King, a man named Robert Richards was charged with stealing one pair of Bicoculas, the property of the Captain. The case was ad journed till Tuesday April 4th. Dr Manning, who has just arrived at "Warkworth to take up practice in this district", announces in another column that he may be consulted at the Warkworth Hotel. We understand that he will fix regular days for the outlying districts, which will be duh notified in these columns."
