Hopes Held That Commission Control Will Be Successful
WELLINGTON, Last Night. The temporary appointment of A. E. Bockett as Waterfront Commissioner is followed by a statemeni by the Minister of Labour, Mr. McLagan. He says that appointment of the sole commissioner has been made as a temporary measure so that the waterfront organisation could 'be maintaingd and the work of the commission carried on without interruption. ■ ■> The Government still hopfes, he says, that commission co'ntrol will eventnally prove a success and it, will give careful constderation tothe establishment of an extended; • form of control at the earliest pos»* sible date. - Mr. McLagan adds that the Govwnment has been completely reluctant to take over the function which diould have" been performed by the Waterfront Industry Commission, but tbe Commission's failure had left the Government no alternative but to do'his or .await tbe_ practical certaihty of further waterfront dislocations.
