UNABLE TO PLEAD TO MURDER CHARGE
NAPIER, last night. „ A verdict that accused was insane and unfit to plead, was returned by a j-ury when Wilfrecl Lawrence Ward Markham, aged 70, was charged in the Supreme -Court to-day with the murder of his wife, Elsie Lilian Markham, at Hastings on Ja!nuary 5. Evidence that accused was mentally unfit to plead . and unable to f ollow proceedings, was given by the medical experts. ^ Accused was eommitted to Porirua ,mental hospital hy "Mr. J-ustiee Christie.
