Charges Against Airmen

Six yc-ung members of the Royal New Zealajid Air Force were brought before justices in the Te Awamutu Court charged with thef t of cigar- . ettes and other articles from the Te Awamutu station of the Air Force, having obtained access to one of the stores, and rifled cases of emergency equipment. Their counsel made a j strong plea for the airmen, whose qges ranged from 18 to 20 years. The Court dismissed the charges on payment of damages and costs, and ordered suppression of their names. The hope was expressed that such leniency wauld not lessen the serious - ness of the charges in the minds oi the offenders.
