ARMED MASKED MAN SURPRISES LICENSEE
GREYMOUTH, Last Night. Awakened at 2.45 this morning by the switching on of the light in their hedroom, Mr. Thomas Stewart, licensee of the Rapahoe Hotel, and his wife were confronted by a masked man armed with a rifle. . u The intruder. ordered the couple into a corner of the room, but tfiere was a door in the corner and Mr. Stewart slipped through into the dining room. In the meantime MrsStewart ealled out, awakening two lodgers. With the saising of the alarm, the intruder made good his escape before a police party from Greymouth and Runanga, summoned . by telephone and .headed by Detective-Ser-geant O. H. Dnvisjf had a'rrived. The search is proceeding. Rapahoe is seven miles from Greymouth, on the highway -to Westport.
