Awakened at 2.45 this morning by the switching on of the light in their hedroom, Mr. Thomas Stewart, licensee of the Rapahoe Hotel, and his wife were confronted by a masked man armed with a rifle. . u The intruder. ordered the couple into a corner of the room, but tfiere was a door in the corner and Mr. Stewart slipped through into the dining room. With the saising of the alarm, the intruder made good his escape before a police party from Greymouth and Runanga, summoned . by telephone and .headed by Detective-Ser-geant O. H. Dnvisjf had a'rrived. The search is proceeding. Rapahoe is seven miles from Greymouth, on the highway -to Westport.
