Inquiries Received From Prospective Immigrants
About 100 letters are received weekly in Wellington from prospective immigrants by the National Employment Service, states Consumer News. Most of them are fiom Britain, but a good proportion are from Europeans who, after some years in India, are anxious to. emigrate to New Zealand. Fairly frequent inquiries are also received from South Africa and Australia, with a few from Canada and the United States. The applications cover most trades and professions, including medical practitioners. Skilled occupations predominate, and a large proportion of the inquiries are from men engaged in various branches of engineering. Very few inquiries have been received from men in unsikilled „ -occupations. Women applicants include typists, stenographers and domestic workers. In their replies to the inquiries the officers of the, National Employment Service gave as many details as possible about Cconomic conditions and housing in Nexv Zealand, as well as about employment. In the meantime, for most people there is little prospect of immediate emigration owing to shipping- difficulties.
