VARIETY AT THE MAJESTIC

"Watch Your Step" Revue "A show fit for adults and children," might well be one of the advertising catch-lines tagged on to the "Watch Your Step" revue which played last night in the Majestic Theatre, Rotorua, and will be presented there again to-night. To amuse the children — Jandy, the Musical Clown, a delightful character. For the adults — >the jokes and sketches of Joe Lawman, well known Australian funny man. Lawman's type of humo-ur are two, the slapstick variety and the "naughty but nice", style. The show, vaudeville pure and simple, was well received, although the house was ' not a capacitys one. Comedy sketches, -ballets, some very good juggling, and musical numbers all went to make a good evening's entertainment. To choose the best item would be a. hard task, but as near as could be ascertained, by listening to the audience reaction, the item on sleigh bells by Jandy was one- of the best received. Although the audience had, been laughing loirdly at his antics a few minutes before, when the little man, accompanied by the orchestra, ran his hands over the silvsry bells in quick tempo the house was still, and the spectators listened breathlessly. The little clown leaped about the stage as he played the more intricate and fast parts of his melody, but his au iience remained still and fascinated. Jandy has not been in this country for 10 ybars, and patrons sincerely hope that it will not .be that longdjefore t'h'sy have the pleasure of seeing this unique performer again. Royston, a very good ventriloquistr with his two cute dolls Slcetter and Nellie, was another popular entertainer of the evening. Playing the violin and sihging, Eileen Bourke provided another highlight of the show. From the opening overture by the competent orch'esfra to the finale, the show went with a swing, smooth con-tin-uity, polished acts, gorgeous girls, costumes and settings, and a ton of wit and humour, combining to make this one of the best shows seen at Rotorua for a lcng time.
