CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR J FORCE
WELLINGTON, last night. In diseussing the further decision of Cabinet to- eall immediately for volunteers for the J Force, the Minister of Defence, Mr. F. Jones, said today that there was no doubt that the the New Zealand Force was fulfilling a most valuable role in representing with the other component units', the British Commonwealth in Japan. Report^ indicated that amwig the occupational troops the New Zealanders were held in high ei=>teem. "Although the first impression of many will be that this decision to replace the Force will be a'further drain on the manpower of the eountry, it should not be overlooked that the returning troops will more or less fill the vacancies created, and that the shovtage will, therefore, be a temporarv one only," said the Minister.
