NEED TO CONSERVE POWER IS STRESSED
AUCKLAND, last night. No power cuts were imposed to-day. The heavy demand which contributed to the failure on Tuesday eased slightly. With the level of Lake Waikaremoana still falling, and the extension of the siphons not expected to be Eompleted for some days, the situation remains serious, and power boards have been urged to economise for several days. It was revealed to-day that one of the generating units at Arapuni was not worlcing on Tuesday, and that the plant at Mangahao station was cut out for maintenance. Production from these units was returned to the system to-clay. ' ">
