Primary School Roll Opens With About 76p There were 70 new enrolme|its yesterday at the Rotorua Primary School to replace the 120 Standard' XV pupils who have passed on to'' the intermediate department of the High School, and. before the end of the first term, stated Mr. J. S. McBean, the headmaster, the num* hers in the school would he bactr . to the figure at the end 6 f last - year. The roll now stands at * approximately 760. Two new&prefabricated classrooitts* in one section were to have beeii rompleted fc-r the begirining of tber • term but it was considered it will bq; *nother fortnight before they ard" veady for occupation. In the meantime, although the teaching staff is at full strength, the accommodation 1 pi oblem is as acute as ever' before. The Rotorua High School will. eommence the scholastic year to-day, with a total roll probably of 600.. Attendance by 15-year-olds, it is. pointed out, is compulsory, but the-'-el ild benefit allowance may be shs-f pended or cancelled in the event of-' non-attendance by school children of • any age. As four prefabricated classrooma are still lying in sections on the High School grounds, the same accommodation problem which faeed the staff last year remains to be solved.
